(REVISED CURRICULUM)



First Year

First Semester


Constitutional Law 1

The course is a survey and evaluation of basic principles dealing with the structure of the Philippine Government.


Communication Skills 1

A Review of the basic rule in grammar, and a study of effective written communication techniques. The students will likewise be taught of the techniques in answering bar questions.


Criminal Law 1

A detailed examination of the characteristics of criminal law, nature of felonies, stages of execution, circumstances affecting criminal liability , persons criminally liable, the extent and extinction of criminal liability as well as the civil liability of the
offender, and the extinction and survival of civil liability.


Introduction


A study of law in general, its nature, the world’s legal system and the Philippine legal system, its history and classifications.


Legal Research

A study of the methodology of legal research. The course includes exercises in case digest and preparation of legal opinions, memoranda, expository or critical, or any subject approved by the professor-in-charge.


Persons & Family Relations

A basic course of the law of persons and the family which first views the effect and application of laws and the law on human relations, and then proceeds to examine the legal forms affecting civil personality, marriage, property relations between husband and wife, legal separation, matrimonial regimes of absolute
community, conjugal partnership of gains, and complete separation of property, family, paternity and filiations, adoption, guardianship, support, parental authority, surnames, absence and emancipation, including the rules of procedure relative to
the foregoing.


SSC-Seminar 1

This is a study of the history of the Order of Augustinian Recollects and the aim of the Order as an educational institution; the philosophical teachings of Saint Augustine and other Church Philosophers; and the teachings of the Catholic Church on contemporary moral and social issues.


Statutory Construction

This course explores the use and force of statutes and the principles and methods of their construction and interpretation.


First Year

Second Semester


Administrative Law

The development and the application of principles and doctrines governing administrative agencies with rule-making and adjudicative functions


Constitutional Law 2

A comprehensive study of the Constitution, the bill of rights and judicial review of acts affecting them


Criminal Law 2

A study of penalties, their nature and theories, classes, manner of computation, complex crimes, habitual delinquency, juvenile delinquency, and indeterminate sentence law and the probation law


Election Law

A study of the prevailing law on elections including procedure in settling election controversies


Legal Ethics

A course that focuses on the canons of legal ethics involving the duties and responsibilities of the lawyer with respect to the client, the court, the bar and the public


Obligation & Contracts

It is an in-depth study of the nature, kinds and effect of obligations, and their contracts, including quasi-contracts, natural obligations and estoppels.


Second Year

First Semester


Insurance

A study of the Insurance Code and related laws, including the concept and functions of insurance, the nature of the insurance contract, insurable interest, special forms of insurance and government regulation of the insurance business


Labor Standards

A study of the minimum labor standards, working conditions and employment benefits, including statutes decrees on labor standards


Legal Counselling

An introduction to the art and technique of legal counseling and a study of arbitration procedure and technique, including alternative dispute resolutions, Republic Act 875 and the ICC rules on arbitration, as well as the responsibilities of a lawyer as a counselor


Property


The law on the different kinds of property, ownership and its modifications, co-ownership, possession, usufruct, easements or servitudes, nuisance, and the different modes of acquiring ownership


Special Contracts

The subject is an in-depth consideration of the provisions of the Civil Code on the contract of sale, its nature and forms, the obligation of the vendors and the vendee, warranties, remedies breach of contract, and conventional and legal redemption. The course includes assignment of credits and incorporeal rights,
the Bulk Sales Law, and the Nationalization Law. It also includes the study of the Civil Code provisions on Lease and Supreme Court decisions on the matter.


Criminal Procedure


A study of the rules on criminal procedure, including the basic rights of the accused, the jurisdiction of courts and the procedure in criminal cases


Special Penal Laws

A study of offenses provided in special law, such as Dangerous Drugs Act, Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act, Wire tapping and related violation on privacy of communication, Carnapping law, New gambling Law, anti –squatting law, cattle rustling act

Survey of Recent Cases (Political Law)


IBL - Investment & Banking Laws

A study of the Omnibus Investment Code, the powers and function of the Board of Investments, rules and regulations governing banks and non-bank financial intermediaries including circulars of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas as well as relevant tax regulations



Second Year

Second Semester



Agrarian Law

A study of the prevailing laws on agrarian reform and existing social legislations


Business Organization 1

A course combining the laws of Partnership, Agency and Trusts


Civil Procedure

A study of the rules and civil procedure involving basic principles of jurisdiction and procedure in civil cases, provisional remedies and special civil action


Negotiable Instruments

A study of the statutory provisions governing negotiable instruments as well as other commercial papers, including investment papers and money market struments


Public Int’l. Law

A study of legal principles governing international relations, based among others on the United Nations Charter and the decisions of International Tribunals


Securities & Capital Market

A study of the Revised Securities Act and other related laws local and foreign affecting financing needs of business as well as capital formation


Transportation

A study of the general principles and basic regulations governing common carriers



Third Year

First Semester


Intellectual Property

A study of existing laws for the protection of intellectual properties (Trademark, patent, copyrights, etc), and the rationale for said laws


Labor Relations

A survey of the laws implementing the rights to self-organization and collective bargaining, including the laws relating to strikes, pickets and lock-outs, unfair labor practice and jurisdiction of the NLRC


Land Titles & Deeds

The course deals with the system and methods of registration of titles and deeds to land includes the study of the legal, financial and operational aspects of subdivisions and condominiums.

Succession

This course zeroes in on detailed evaluation of the law on testate and intestate succession, including wills, institution of heirs, computation of legitimes of compulsory heirs, disinheritance, and partition and distribution of the estate. The course also takes up rules of procedure on the settlement and administration of
the estate of deceased persons.


Taxation 1

The general principles of taxation and statutory provisions on income taxation, including pertinent revenue regulations



Third Year

Second Semester


Business Organization 2

This is a study of the Corporation Code or the law governing private corporations. It includes a study of the Securities and Exchange Commission.


Evidence

A course which looks into the rules of presentation, admissibility, and weight and sufficiency of evidence, including burden of proof and presumption


Legal Forms & Writing

A supervised writing course involving the preparation of legal materials including opinions or memoranda. Includes training in the drafting of various legal documents and deeds.


Special Proceedings

A study on rules on settlement of estate, wills, letters testamentary and administration, encumbrance of property of decedent and escheats; General Guardians and Guardianships; Trustees, Adoption and Custody of Minors; Hospitalization of Insane Persons; Habeas Corpus; Change of Name; Voluntary
Dissolution of Corporation; Judicial approval of Voluntary Recognition of Minor Natural children; Absentees, Cancellation or correction of entries in the Civil Registry

Torts & Damages

An analyst of the law on quasi-delicts as well as the nature, classes and extent of damages


Taxation 2

A study of the concept and principles of transfer (estate and donor(s), specific, business percentage, amusement, and miscellaneous taxes provided in the National Internal Revenue Code, including general principles on tariff and customs duties.



Fourth Year

First Semester


Civil Law Review 1

A general integration of the principles in Civil Law covering the effect and application of laws, the law on Human Relations, Persons and Family Relations, Property, Ownership and its Modification, the Different Modes of Acquiring ownership, including Succession. Pertinent provisions of special laws and the Rules of Court are also reviewed


Criminal Law Review

A general review of the Revised Penal Code with the latest amendments, and the interpretative decisions of the Supreme Court on the other relevant penal statutes


Legal Medicine

This gives an overview of the principles relating to medico-legal cases, including the procedure of presenting and examining a medical expert witness


Practice Court 1

Actual preparation and drafting of complaints, petitions, answers, motions, briefs and other pleadings before tribunals and exercises in the art of effective oral advocacy based on actual cases handled by the Legal Aid are studied in this course. Students are likewise required to render service at the legal aid and to undergo court visitations.


Remedial Law Review

A general survey and integration of the principles of court jurisdiction, civil and criminal procedures, special civil actions, special proceedings, provisional remedies and evidence.


Taxation Law Review

A general survey and integration of the principles of taxation and laws and cases related to it



Fourth Year

Second Semester


Civil Law Review 2

A general integration of the principles in civil law relating to obligations and contracts, sales, lease, quasi-contracts, quasidelicts and damates


Commercial Law Review

A comprehensive survey and review of laws of partnership, agency, trust, corporation, Securities and Exchange Commission, secured transactions, egotiable instruments, insurance, transportation, and other special laws


Conflicts of Law

A course dealing with transactions or relationship involving foreign elements with emphasis on the choice of law methods, including problems in jurisdiction and in recognition


Legal Ethics & Prac. Exer.

A review of ethical problems confronting lawyers and judges in the exercise of the profession


Political Law Review

A general survey of the Constitution of the Philippines, including Administrative Law


Practice Court 2

Actual appearance in MTC, RTC and other administrative bodies as law interns of he legal aid, under the supervision of supervising lawyers. Periodical briefings are conducted on effective trial technique. Mock trials are also periodically conducted where the lawyers, litigants and witnesses are all members of the class and the professors act as judge.


SSC-R Seminar 2

A study of the Social Teachings of the Church in relation to the legal profession, the Concept of justice in the Holy scripture, and the morality of the legal profession
