Ensuring the sustainability of the law program between partner institutions such as San Sebastian College-Recoletos Manila and the Integrated Bar of the Phillippines, Surigao Chapter, Fr. Anthony A. Morillo, OAR met with the representatives of the IBP Surigao Chapter last September 21-22, 2009.
The Partnership between SSC-R and the IBP was realized during the tenure of Fr. Dionisio Cachero, OAR as president of SSC-R and with Hon. Jose C. Sering, the incumbent Governor of Surigao, in 1997. The first MOA between the two institutions was valid for the duration of school years 1997-2002. This was extended with the succeeding MOA’s up to 2008.
Since 2002 until 2008, the SSCR-IBP partnership has produced 16 lawyers who are now actively serving various government offices, academic institutions, and judicial entities in Surigao and the nearby towns and cities.
Underscoring the fact that the best beneficiaries of the program partnership are the people of Surigao, Fr. Morillo stressed that as a sheer community service, SSC-R Manila sees utmost cooperation, dedicated service and humble stewardship, all dramatizing commitment, which both parties should earnestly demonstrate.
Needless to say, IBP counterparts vowed to give their best to make the partnership a great success. They confessed that although they have different political affiliations, the existence of the law school, however, has always been a unifying vision among them. Fr. Morillo was assisted by the Fr. Leander V.
Barrot, OAR (VP for Academics) during the evening meeting. The IBP Surigao Chapter was represented by Atty. Fernando Almeda III, together with the former deans of the IBP-SSC-R law school, Vice-Governor Atty. Noel P. Catre and 16 other lawyers. The visit of the president was capped with a breakfast sponsored by Mrs. Soccorro I. Sering, wife of the late governor.
